Are you looking for new employees? Your office design is the first thing candidates see as soon as they walk in. Does it leave a positive first impression? Or would candidates rather turn around immediately? These 3 tips ensure an attractive work environment – for both new talent and your current team.

1. Put well-being first
Now that we are once again swapping our home offices for a spot at the office, the time is right to do something about it. In fact, focusing on mental health has become even more urgent since the corona pandemic. In the war for talent, where companies compete to land rare finds, you have an advantage with a healthy and stimulating workplace.
We are not talking about a hip sushi bar and ping-pong tables. Those are pleasant surprises during a first introduction, but more is needed to convince new employees. An office design in which the health of your employees is central shows that you pay attention to long-term job satisfaction. Consider:
- plenty of natural light, fresh air, and plants
- ergonomic furniture, such as sit-stand desks
- space for relaxation and movement
2. Opt for a dynamic design
A flexible work environment is not just a trend. For many job candidates, it is a decisive factor during interviews. The freedom to decide for yourself where and when you work makes it easier to maintain a work-life balance.
Millennials in particular – born between 1980 and 2000 – are looking for more autonomy in the workplace. They now make up about half of the labor market, so you had better respond smartly to that demand.
In your office design, freedom of choice is reflected, for example, in multifunctional spaces and furniture. These are easily adapted to everyone’s needs. Also, with different types of workspaces tailored to activities such as brainstorming, focused work, or client meetings, you indicate that everyone can choose a place where they feel good and perform optimally.
3. Highlight your corporate culture
When looking for new employees, you ideally want them to fit in with your company and feel at home. To increase the chance of a perfect match, ensure that your office clearly reflects your company values and culture. That is called workspace branding.
By bringing your brand to life in the colors, furniture, lighting, accessories – your entire office design – applicants can immediately discover if their personality aligns with your company.
Do you really want to excel in the war for talent? Then a tour for your candidates is a good idea. This way, they see more than just the reception or a meeting room; you let them directly experience the ‘remarkable’ company atmosphere.

A tip: Google your company and see which photos appear. Candidates do that too. Are the photos of your office no longer up to date? Time to take new ones! Give your candidates a glimpse into your attractive office, and they might immediately feel excited to start working for you.
